

Dorothy has been involved in middle level education for many years as a math teacher, reading teacher, team secretary, team leader, coach, mentor, and educational consultant. She is currently a building principal in Hudsonville, Michigan.
Dorothy is co-author of two popular middle level books, WOW, What a Team and Fire Up for Learning. She has also developed and published educational games based on curriculum concepts. She has co-authored courses for the Internet company www.WebEd.com and has written numerous articles. Dorothy received her Bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University and her Master and Doctoral degrees from Western Michigan University.
Dorothy was a member of an eight-person team for ten years at a national exemplary middle school in East Grand Rapids, Michigan. The team worked with student needs, planned interdisciplinary units, coordinated curriculum and much more. She experienced teaming, flexible block schedules, integrated instructions, and creating programs that support parent involvement and the needs of students. Dorothy was part of the team that planned and implemented an orientation program for the incoming fifth grade students and their parents. She coordinated the team scheduling of students for eight years.
Dorothy was a consultant for Leadership Resources in Michigan. She is currently a consultant for SDE in New Hampshire and Makitso Educational Consulting in Tennessee. She is founder and is founder and President of Global Learning, LLC in Michigan.
Dorothy is co-director, along with Randy Thompson, of the Northern Exposure to Middle Level Education Conference in Frankenmuth, Michigan. The conference specializes in innovative practices and programs for middle level educators.
Dorothy has presented at state and national level conferences including the NMSA annual conferences, Nuts & Bolts Boulder Symposium for Middle Level Educators, Northern Exposure to Middle Level Education Conference, SDE National Looping and Multiage Conference, MAMSE (Michigan Association for Middle School Educators), Grand Valley State University Math in Action, MCTM (Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics) annual conference, and Midwest Middle Level Conference.
As a consultant, Dorothy is currently assisting educators in various stages at the middle level, mathematics, Multiple Intelligences, integrated curriculum, instructional strategies, and self-esteem.
Dorothy was honored by Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society for her high academic standing, and nominated for the Sallie Mae national teaching award by East Grand Rapids Public Schools.
